My name is Jeffrey Mark Jones. I am an artist currently living in Northern California. Having been a process painter for about 15 years, I have dedicated the majority of my studio life to the ideas, the subject, and the dilemmas of contemporary painting. My main influences have been Gerhard Richter, Pablo Picasso, Lucian Freud, and Egon Schiele. I feel that, over the last century, these four painters have proven dedication, intuitive genius, and profound intelligence in and around the daily practice of painting.

For about five years, I studied in schools of both architecture and fine arts in Los Angeles. There, my studies focused mostly around the human form and portraiture in relationship to space, as well as consideration of the objects as signs and symbols. From there I ventured into the world of surrealism, combining my architecture and painting backgrounds with the focus remaining on the human form.

Conceptually and aesthetically, my work centers itself around the real and abstracted ideas of spatial objects in relation to the human form. The use of pigment as object also plays an integral part in the fabrication of each piece.

I believe that the process of painting today possesses a unique and imperative role in the contemporary art world both aesthetically and theoretically, which demands intelligent conversation and visual thought.
